Wichita State University as Research Technician Job Description

The National Institute for Aviation Research (NIAR), located at Wichita State University in Wichita, KS, is a premier aviation research organization that has gained national and international recognition for its programs and laboratories. NIAR is engaged in basic and applied research, testing and certification. The city of Wichita, KS is a home of major aerospace industry, namely Spirit Aerosystems, Boeing, Hawker Beechcraft, Cessna, Bombardier-Learjet and many aviation suppliers. NIAR is seeking a candidate for the position Research Technician. To be considered for the position, applicants must provide a resume and three professional related references. Offers of employment are contingent upon completion of a satisfactory criminal background check as required by the Board of Regents policy.

The Research Technician will assist the Lab Director and Program Managers with disassembly of aircraft structural components.

Required Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

(1) Must be a US Citizen at the time of employment,
(2) Must have completed sheet metal schooling, or have equivalent work experience,
(3) Must be capable of reading an engineering blueprint,
(4) Must have extensive knowledge of major aircraft structural components and typical damage types observed on aircraft components,
(5) Must have worked performing structural assembly/disassembly for a minimum of six months,
(6) Must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Publisher,
(7) Be willing to work flexible hours at relatively short notice.

Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills &Abilities

(1) A minimum of two years experience performing structural assembly/disassembly,
(2) A minimum of two years working with coatings removal systems,
(3) Willingness to listen to fellow employees and provide ideas for process improvement,
(4) Working experience with some or all of the detailed job description above,
(5) Previous disassembly/​documentation experience on large, detail-oriented, research programs.
